Extreme Plane Spotting at Maho Beach, Saint Martin

Located on the Dutch side of the Caribbean island of Saint Martin is the famous Maho Beach. While it has the characteristic white sand and turquoise water of a Caribbean paradise that is not what makes Maho Beach such a popular tourist destination.

Rather, it has much to do with the Princess Juliana International Airport directly adjacent to Maho. Arriving aircraft must touch down as close as possible to the beginning of Runway 10 due to the short runway length of 2,180 meters (7,150 ft), resulting in aircraft on their final approach flying over the beach at minimal altitude.

Watching airliners pass over the beach is such a popular activity that daily arrivals and departures airline timetables are displayed on a board in most bars and restaurants on the beach, and one bar even has a speaker on its outside deck that broadcasts the radio transmissions between pilots and the airport's control tower.

Weird world records

Workers carry Romania's national flag during a Guinness World Record
attempt for the world's biggest national flag in Clinceni. The flag, measuring
349.4 per 226.9 meters.

Clinton Shepherd, park operations manager at the Chicago's Navy Pier,
rode the tourist spot's Ferris wheel for more than 2 days over the weekend
of May 18-19, 2013, bringing the world record for the longest ride to the birthplace of the amusement park favorite.

Plus-size model and part-time carer Mikel Ruffinelli, who weighs 420 lbs.
and whose hips measure more than eight feet in circumference, set the new
world record for World's Largest Hips. With husband Reggie and daughters.

The Great Dane is now officially the world's tallest canine according
to the record book. The 3-year-old measures 44 inches from foot to
shoulder. Standing on his hind legs, Zeus measures 7-foot-4.

Chris "The Duchess" Walton shows off her Guinness world record
holding fingernails. Her nails measure 10 feet 2 inches on her left hand
and 9 feet 7 inches on her right hand that she has been growing for 18 years.

Runners dressed in inflatable Sumo costumes take part in a charity
5km (3 miles) run at Battersea Park in London. Organisers claimed a
new world record for a mass Sumo suit gathering at the annual event.

Etibar Elchiyev poses with 50 metal spoons magnetized to his body
during an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for "Most
spoons on a human body" in Tbilisi.

Thaneshwar Guragai spins a basketball on a toothbrush while holding the toothbrush in his mouth for exactly 22.41 seconds to break the last Guinness record of 13.5 seconds set by Thomas Connors of U.K, in Kathmandu.

The sofa, measuring seven metres long and two metres tall, took about
70 metres of material and two weeks to complete. Its owner hopes it
would be considered for the Guinness Book of Records for the biggest
sofa in the world.

Chefs at the University of Massachusetts set a new Guinness World Record by cooking the 6,656-pound seafood stew in the same custom-built, 1-ton, 14-foot frying pan used last year to set a Guinness Record of 4,010 pounds for the world's largest stir-fry.
