VVS Laxman announces his Retirement from Cricket |
Indian test specialist batsman VVS Laxman has announced his retirement from on August 18, 2012. Very Very Special as he is called, here are 10 facts about his carreer.
- Laxman made his Test debut against South Africa on November 20, 1996.
- In 134 Tests, Laxman scored 8781 runs at an average of 45.97, including 17 hundreds and 56 half-centuries.
- Laxman's first two Test tons came against Australia in 2001 and 2003.
- Laxman was one of the saffest slip fielders, taking 135 catches - some of them were just spectacular - in 134 Tests.
- Among all the centuries Laxman scored, the 281-run knock he played in the Kolkata Test in 2001 against Australia was arguably his best.
- Laxman's record against Australia was spectacular. He scored 2434 runs in 29 Tests against the Aussies.
- Laxman will always be remembered for his very very special innings.
- Laxman played 86 ODIs and scored 3283 runs at an average of 30.76, making six centuries and 10 half-centuries.
- The Hyderabadi batsman played his last ODI against South Africa at Centurion in 2006.
- The classical Indian batsman announced his retirement on August 18, 2012, bringing the curtains down on a 16-year prolific career.
